Why Fortunato

Fortunato means lucky

In Italian, fortunato means fortunate — and cucina means kitchen. We think the lucky ones are the people around a full table.

So we cook generously: dough proved for 48 hours, ragù simmered for eight, lemons from a grower who rings us when they're perfect. No white tablecloths, no fuss. Just the food you'd want on a Tuesday and the room you'd book for a Saturday.

The room

Cream walls, green booths, loud tables

A corner shopfront on Oaks Ave with a striped awning, warm lamps and the kind of noise that means everyone's having a good time.

Our team

The people who feed you

Chefs, pizzaioli and floor crew from all over Sydney — green tees, cream aprons, and a habit of remembering your usual order.

Our kitchen starts at seven with dough and stock; the floor starts at four with music and a staff feed. It's a proper neighbourhood team, and most of them have been here since day one.

La dolce vita

A little taste of the good life.

Amalfi lemons, salty air, long lunches that turn into dinner. We brought the feeling to Sydney.
